Features: Glacial Drumlin; farmland; speciman Tulip tree (12th largest tree in CT): woodland.
Landkeepers: Hubbell Farm (61 East Village Road) has been restoring the farmland by removing invasive species such as Russian Olive, removing old farm equipment, and repairing damage made from perc tests. They also fertilize and cut the hayfield, located on the drumlin. Ref. Linda Hooper, CC minutes of August 2007.
History: French's Hill (OS 122.01) was purchased in 2002 with a state DEP grant of $546,000 (see news article). The adjacent "Vistas" or "Wabuda" property (OS 122.02) was subsequently acquired under subdivision regulations for the Vistas of the White Hills development.
Notable: The hill next to East Village Road is the only glacial drumlin in Connecticut. This is the farmed part of the open space. The 12th largest tulip tree registered in Connecticut is located about 100 yards off the end of Sagamore Road, coordinates N 41 20.649', W 73 08.237'.
